I have had several VHF and Dual Band Yaesu radio's over the years that have worked very well. The only problem I have had is with the wire on the standard MH style microphone. Over time the wire from the microphone starts to become brittle at the connection points on both ends. All of the microphones I have had start to experience this problem over time.

Below are pictures of the problem I have had at the radio connection and the microphone.

I have recently found a replacement cord on Amazon for $9.99. The cord seems to be a better quality cord that what comes on the original mic.

Pasow Replacement Microphones Mic Cable Cord Wire for Yaesu

Replacing the cable is pretty easy. You need to remove three Phillips screws.

Once the screws are removed, separate the two sections of the mic to expose where the wire connection is located. In the picture below, the mic connection can be seen in the bottom left.
The mic connection can be removed by pulling the white connection off of the pins.

Insert the new mic in the same location being careful to insert the strain relief where the microphone wire exits the mic housing.

Once the cable is installed, reassemble the microphone using the three screws you removed earlier. The connection on the mic should look like the following.

You will notice the new replacement cable is a little thicker in diameter and better quality.

I hope you find this post helpful.
